Sample Documentaries
In order to better assist you in creating a winning project, we have provided examples of entries that have won prizes at either previous state or national competitions. These models are to be used as examples only. You can also check out the samples provided at the National History Day website. Eminent Domain: Private Tragedies for the Public Good This Junior Individual Documentary, created by Tennessee student Lauren Collins of White Pine School in Jefferson County, won 2nd place at the Tennessee History Day state contest on April 2, 2011. After additional editing, the project would later go on to win 1st place at the National History Day contest in College Park, MD on June 16, 2011. Dr. Robert F. Thomas: The Great Smoky Mountains Horseback Healer of Body and Soul This Junior Group Documentary by Elisa Vandergriff and Maranda Vandergriff of Powell, TN and Elijah Gray of Gatlinburg, TN won first place at the East Tennessee District competition, first at the state level Tennessee History Day competition, and 2nd place at the National History Day competition in Maryland during the 2009 competition year. It also took home the "Best Project in Tennessee History" prize at the state level competition. Sergeant York: An All-American Hero This documentary "Sergeant York: An All-American Hero" produced by Hannah Armendarez and Shannon Gleason for the 2006 Tennessee History Day competition. Hannah and Shannon are students from St John Neumann School in Knoxville, Tennessee. This documentary was awarded 1st place at the 2006 Tennessee History Day State competition. It also won the Fred Phillips Award for best entry dealing with Tennessee state history. Hannah and Shannon's documentary made it to the final round of the National History Day competition in Maryland. This documentary is a prime example of a winning entry! |
