Donations to the Tennessee Historical Society Collections

The Tennessee Historical Society welcomes donations of manuscript materials, artifacts, and publications to its collections. Material donated to the Society is assigned for care and access by the public to the TSLA or TSM depending on the nature of the objects. For example, genealogical materials will be housed at the Archives, while a painting will be housed at the State Museum. The THS retains ownership of the materials although they are managed and conserved elsewhere.

For information on making a donation, please call the Society at 615 741 8934 or email the THS .

Gifts to the Tennessee Historical Society, which is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, are tax deductible as allowed by law. In compliance with the United State Revenue Service Code (98 stat. 692 [1984], 26 USC 170 note) the Tennessee Historical Society cannot appraise donations for tax valuation or any other purpose. Any inventory or accounting of donations provided to donors will be provided in a format determined by the Society. With a few exceptions the Society will not accept donated items with restrictions on their use. All donated materials become the sole property of the Society, and final disposition of all gifts is reserved to Society.
